The Official of Judicial Administration released 23 nominees to replace retiring Justice Harold Herd. Among them are 15 judges including Judge Robert E. Davis, six women, 14 district court judges, and eight private attorneys. The Nominating Commission will interview October 23 24 and forward three names to Governor Joan Finney who will appoint within 60 days. if not, Chief Justice Richard Holmes will appoint. Justice Kay McFarland remains the sole woman on the court and may become chief justice when Holmes retires.
