Clinton signs Megan s law to notify neighbors of offenders

President Clinton signed Megan s law expanding the 1994 anti crime bill to require states to notify local officials and the public when a convicted sex offender moves into a neighborhood. Named after Megan Kanka, a 7 year old girl slain in New Jersey, the measure aims to inform parents about dangerous predators in their community. The bill passed the House 418 to 0 and allows states to set notification details while risking federal aid for noncompliance.
