Osage City man dies after standoff
Mitch Nelson, 34, of Osage City, Kansas, apparently killed himself with a .22 rifle after a 24 hour standoff with local and state authorities at his parents home four miles north of Osage City. His nine month old son was unharmed and taken to a Topeka hospital for examination before being released to family. An Osage County sheriff's department call began Wednesday evening after a domestic battery report and Nelson refused to come out, keeping the child with him while threatening officers. KBI negotiators and a tactical team forced entry at about 7 p.m. Thursday. Nelson was found dead in the residence. An autopsy was planned for Friday.
