Jason Acker, a Pomona High School senior, received an Award of Excellence in business for 1995 96 at a Fort Hays State University recognition program in Overland Park. He belongs to Future Business Leaders of America and played football and basketball. He is the son of Fred and Phyllis Anbae. Ottawa Horticulture Study Club meets at Iris Wakeman’s home with notes on window boxes and herb use. next meeting is March 29 at the Ottawa Country Club.

Final spellers duel for county spot at state bee
In a tense county spelling contest five finalists faced 34 entrants from third to eighth grade. From Williamsburg eighth-grader Lee Driver placed third, while Skiles and Kelsey advanced with Kelsey as alternate to represent the county at the state spelling bee April 1 at Topeka High School. The national bee in Washington, D C, begins May 31.

State treasurer highlighted the Kansas Cash Connection as a self funding program using interest from unclaimed property to finance state needs, including $13 million for water rights.
