Elodea canadensis as stock feed gains Kansas State interest
Kansas State College researchers in Manhattan report Elodea canadensis a moss like aquatic plant grown in fresh water pools can substitute or supplement alfalfa meal in pig fattening rations when fed sparingly. Trials show pigs gaining 1.75 pounds daily vs 1.57 with alfalfa meal. Stephens of Platt City started the feeds after dehydrating the moss and K State tests proceed. A method to plant it in ponds is simple drop propagation stock in two feet of water every 50 feet.
