Desiree Washington, 19, of Coventry Rhode Island, files a civil suit in U.S. District Court in Indianapolis against Mike Tyson seeking damages for assault, battery, false imprisonment and emotional distress. The pageant contestant accuses him of rape last July at an Indianapolis hotel, while Tyson serves a six year sentence. The suit seeks punitive and compensatory damages.
Manila AP reports Congress proclaims Fidel Ramos winner of the May 11 election. The 64 year old West Point graduate will assume office June 30 as the Philippines eighth president, succeeding Corazon Aquino. Estrada wins vice presidency in separate tally. Critics charge rushed proclamation before Aquino leaves.
City Band presents a Wednesday evening concert at the City Park bandshell starting 7 30 p m featuring works by Kenneth J Alford and Anchor Pryor. Alford born 1881 in London and died 1945 served as Royal Marines music director and is seen as Britain's Sousa. Pryor marches arranged by Bill Butler will be performed and a country and western section is planned. Refreshments and lawn seating advised with pies cakes lemonade and homemade ice cream sold by Ottawa High School bands.

A Fort Riley soldier, Craig Ross, 22, was found dead in Turtle Creek near Manhattan after an apparent drowning. An autopsy at Irwin Army Hospital ruled the death accidental. Ross, a construction equipment repair specialist from Houston, was reported missing June 13 and his body was recovered Friday by a passing motorist.
Nobody cracked the 2 million Powerball jackpot Saturday, pushing the next prize to an estimated 3.5 million for Wednesday. Winning numbers were 7 11 15 21 35 with Power Ball 12.
