Unlikely find yields Civil War money and Lincoln paper
Ottawa Library custodian Vern Kolb discovered two old frames in a back closet. One holds Confederate States government currency, the other the April 15 1865 New York Herald front page reporting Lincoln’s assassination. He plans to study the items alongside his soldier letters collection.

Plane crash Kills Ten Near Grand Canyon West Airstrip
MEADVIEW Ariz AP a small twin engine Cessna 402 of Adventure Airlines from Las Vegas crashed near the Hualapai Indian Reservation on the south shore of Lake Mead. All 10 aboard were killed including crew. No survivors were reported by Mohave County officials.

Severe thunderstorm hits Wichita with large hail and tornadoes
A powerful storm swept through Wichita at midday causing extensive hail damage and downed power lines. Authorities reported multiple tornadoes and funnel clouds in Reno and Sedgwick counties, with at least one tractor trailer overturned near Hutchinson and farm losses from hail battered grain storage. No serious injuries reported.

The Ottawa High School class of 1937 marked its 55th reunion June 14 to 16 with 79 participants including spouses. Forty-two of 87 surviving grads attended from places as far as California and Florida, despite injuries and illnesses. The weekend opened June 14 at the Eagles Lodge before moving to a local restaurant.
