Storms batter weak Kansas wheat crop in aftermath of drought
Severe storms Tuesday night dumped hail and tornadoes across southern Kansas, injuring crops and delaying harvest. Seven tornadoes touched down in Clark, Comanche, Kiowa, Ford, Edwards and Pawnee counties amid golf ball to baseball size hail. Farmers reported up to 25 percent wheat loss in some Kiowa County fields while others fared slightly better after recent rain. Harvest offices remained limited, with four open in Harper, Sumner, and Kingman counties.
