Ottawa student earns USAF Academy appointment and awards
Dustin Grant of Ottawa earned a certificate of appointment to the U S Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. He will enter a six week basic cadet program this summer and, with a full four year scholarship valued at about 104000 dollars, will be commissioned as a second lieutenant after graduation. He was one of about 1200 of 9000 applicants.

Extension agent Houck moves to Sedgwick County post
Franklin County family and consumer sciences agent Marcia Houck leaves after 20 years to take a similar role in Sedgwick County. She will focus on family life and health and safety, joining a four-member team and expanding use of technology to reach more residents. Her Franklin County tenure began November 1, 1976. Her last day is July 19. she starts July 29, with an open house planned in July.

A fire destroyed most of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Oklahoma City, spreading through the brick structure and reaching the roof as investigators labeled the incident suspicious. A CIP addition for a new police building was endorsed over a south-side fire station. The board granted a variance at 704 S. Cherry reducing front setback from 25 feet to 12/4 feet for a new house. no further city action required.
