Dairy Group Sponso​rs Perry Como Show On NBC

The American Dairy Association will sponsor the Perry Como Show on NBC-TV starting Sept 14, airing Saturdays at 7 p.m. Central. The hour program has ranked among the top five TV shows, with the group planning radio and print campaigns to reach more consumers. The association will drop the Disney land show on ABC-TV to favor a program with a larger adult audience.

Fewer than 10 cows on most dairy farms in census

National Milk Producers Federation data show 77 percent of farms with cows have herds under 10. Despite growth in large herds, only 3.2 percent of farms milk more than 30 cows, with 20–29 cows at 5.1 percent and 10–19 cows at 14 percent. Most dairy farms remain small herd milkers.

Williamsburg FFA Group Keeps Active

Williamsburg High School Vocational Agriculture students posted a strong year with three major awards the State Co-op Award the District FFA Foundation Award and the District Farm Bureau Safety Award plus prizes including a radio plaques and certificates They sent Roger Bush to the National Safety Congress in Chicago and six officers to the American Institute of Co-Op Camp in Fort Collins Colo All expenses were paid by local groups The 31 member club placed 15th in two judging events emphasizing leadership training over judging Individual members earned honors Charles Higdon won the District and State Beef Awards Bob Anderson earned a State Farmer Award Ralph Basel won the American Farmer Degree The group helped with tornado cleanup at the Hamilton farm and plans to compete in the National Co-Op Award with entries from 13 states
