Weekend Rains and Floods Hit Texas Towns
Torrential weekend rains drenched Texas and Oklahoma causing Willow Creek to burst its banks in Longview with up to 4.70 inches falling. About 20 homes flooded as waters rose 3 feet in an hour and underpasses filled. Across the region rivers and streams rose toward Lake Texoma and the Rio Grande while several tornadoes touched down. At least seven Texas deaths were linked to the weather including a two car collision and two airmen swept away at San Antonio. Crop damage mounted in cotton and grains across the area.

Rev Luce To Leave Ottawa
Edward Ebner Godsey 76, farmer, longtime Kansas resident, died at 12:30 a.m. at his home RFD 1 Baldwin after four years of declining health and two weeks serious illness. Born February 28, 1881 in Smith Center, he was the last of five siblings. He married Bessie I Floyd Jacobs on January 11, 1939. The family moved to Douglas County in 1949. Survivors include his widow, nine sons and daughters, nine stepchildren, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, with residences spanning Dodge City to Kansas City.

Funeral rites for Benjamin F Spooner set Wednesday
Funeral services for 76 year old Benjamin F Spooner a member of the Muncie Indian Nation who died Saturday will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from McVey Dengel Mortuary with Rev Pete Ratzlaff officiating and burial in Highland Cemetery. Other notices report. North Baptist Church pastor Rev William L Luce accepting pulpit at High Point Baptist Church Lee's Summit Missouri and plans for a three unit building program. Luce to assume position late July. he has served Ottawans nearly three years after Air Force chaplain service. James McLaughlin obituary notes salesman at 707 Tremont died Saturday in Ransom Memorial Hospital after yearlong illness.

Two Damage Suits Filed in District Court
Jay Scott county superintendent travels to Topeka for a convention while Kay Daugharthy and Nancy Morse take summer posts in the county offices. Dwayne Zordel and Donald Haynes face suits totaling 24,124.88 over a fatal auto crash involving Lois Zordel. Haynes is charged with negligence. Boys Held For Vandalism
Four minor boys were detained by police over the weekend for vandalism with others implicated. Jasper Davies identified two youths who shattered a window at 904 Walnut, later admitting the act. Additional youths were questioned for damage at a Santa Fe model house, including broken bulbs and windows dating to last winter. All will appear before Juvenile Court Judge Milo Harris.

Three Senators Urge Oil Restrictions

Kansas Death Toll Is Five During Memorial Holiday
Five people died in a four day Memorial holiday period in Kansas, with this year’s toll higher than 1955 and 1956. Victims included Carl A. Ryan 37 and Albert Storm 10 of Kansas City in Wyandotte County, Mamie Ssim 75 of Niles in Salina, A D White 75 struck on U S 40 bypass near Abilene, and John Leslie Jones 63 of El Dorado in a K57 crash near Le Roy.

Thirteen Ottawa Steel Division employees received service awards at the 8th annual employe family picnic held Saturday at the Armory. Door prizes included a freezer iron waffle iron grill barometer snack kit badminton set and more. Activities featured games rides on a miniature locomotive built by Ab Yokum, the longest serving employee since 1943, followed by a barbequed beef dinner chaired by Lola Shaw with a large organizing committee.
