Big rail merger may be ICC's last
In its biggest and perhaps last merger decision the Interstate Commerce Commission approved Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Pacific for a 4 billion merger creating the largest U S rail network. The 33 000 mile system would stretch Canada to Mexico with 7 billion in revenue, eliminating about 2750 jobs and saving 450 million yearly while boosting freight flow. critics fear reduced competition and some Kansas job losses are anticipated.
