Teters pig wins grand championship at fair

Teter's pig stayed in the corner while others pranced, and she won a trophy donated by Kansas State Bank. Peine took reserve championship as Jeff’s hog impressed. Teter, a 1994 Ottawa High School graduate, will be a sophomore at Emporia State, majoring in music education.

Fair schedule highlights Franklin County events today

Fairgoers will find a busy agenda at the Franklin County fair. Activities begin at 9 a.m. with a pet show near Celebration Hall, followed by a chocolate cake contest entry window and judging at Hayward Arena, 11 to noon, then 3 p.m. 4-H awards and 5:30 p.m. market animal sale. Evening features a demolition derby with a $3,000 purse starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are 6 for adults and 4 for children. Sunday offers a cattle dog demonstration at 1 p.m. and a 2 p.m. Fun 4-H Horse Show with rides and concessions.

Kansas Pipeline case may publish settlement terms

Kansas Corporation Commission ordered Kansas Pipeline Partnership to justify keeping the settlement with Western Resources confidential while Williams Natural Gas and state officials push for public access. The dispute centers on five contracts to supply up to 1 million cubic feet daily to Western for Johnson Wyandotte counties and Ottawa Osawatomie Paola by 1997.

Death penalty decision pending in Oklahoma City bombing case
