He cited attacks on government posts, killings of loyalists, and seizure of 50 rifles, with alleged Thai support and collusion with a Siamese backed front. Clark Clifford, nominated as defense secretary, tells the Senate committee that the United States seeks sincerity in talks and a bombing pause without insisting on an end to North Vietnamese infiltration. Edna Texas flies flags to back Vietnam peace

In Edna Texas a citywide display of about 100 U S flags daily expresses support for government policy in Vietnam. Mayor A D Tinker spearheaded the effort, supported by the City Council and local business and courthouse workers, with flags on meters and at homes. The move honors service members including Tinker's sons and sons-in-law, and a council resolution condemns antiwar protests while pledging continued flag displays until an honorable peace is achieved.
