Hearst vows to testify against former SLA members

Patricia Hearst told CNN she believes Sara Jane Olson and SLA members planned a war to overthrow the US government. She pledged to testify against Olson and the others, noting their self described jihad and comparing them to mass killers. Olson appeared in Sacramento on a first-degree murder charge after a 20 to life sentence for attempting to blow up LAPD cars.

Analysts urge new vision to revive Kmart after bankruptcy

Kmart filed for Chapter 11 becoming the largest U S retailer in bankruptcy. Analysts say the chain must restore confidence with a fresh retailing rationale and plan. The Troy based company will close underperforming stores. About 700 stores may shutter as it reorganizes with 2 billion in financing and aims to emerge in 2003.

Markets Edge Lower as Tech Outlook Fuels Caution

Wall Street failed to gain broadly as doubts about the economic recovery and big positions kept investors cautious. The Dow slipped 13.98 to 9,699.82 while the S&P 500 rose 4.50 to 1,123.81 and the Nasdaq gained 19.53 to 1,902.06. Novellus rose after beating estimates. SAP AG forecast a 2002 gain. Pfizer met expectations. Microsoft slid on AOL Time Warner antitrust suit claims, and AOL Time Warner fell. Local stock quotes and grain prices were listed for several firms and commodities.
