County trims Nicholson umbrella as commissioners discuss new posts
Franklin County commissioners met with Noxious weed director Ray DeJulio, County Engineer Bob Chamberlin and zoning administrator Pete Nicholson to outline duties for a new sanitarian and landfill manager and for a planning and zoning administrator. Nicholson remains planning and zoning chief as the county hires for the sanitarian post, with training toward state sanitarian credentials. The panel approved zoning for Richmond Township and heard Santa Fe Railroad will donate 500 to the hazmat team, with budget guidance from the board. Training is planned March 10 to 12 at Ottawa city fire department basement, and elevator bids for the county courthouse were opened but not awarded.

Kickapoo Nation selects SD firm for $22 million casino
Horton announces Sodak Gaming Supplies of Rapid City will finance and build a $22 million casino for the Kickapoo Indian Nation on a 400 acre site south of Hiawatha Kansas. Casino management will be by Casino Management Service of Sparks Nevada, after interior department approval. Construction awaits acquisition and interior secretary sign off.
