Stores say ID checks for tobacco at Wichita area outlets
Local clerks at Wingert's Texaco K-68 and I-35 deny cigarette purchases to customers without proper ID, with three to four turned away daily. Managers report training to ID those under 27 and say the policy is widely followed, while others like Conoco and Wood's Mini Mart also enforce ID checks and report no violations. The U S state received an F for youth access in a 2002 American Lung Association report noting no mandatory ID or random inspections.

Flu hits OMS hard at Ottawa Middle School
Flu like viruses swept the Ottawa area this week causing many students to miss school. Ottawa Middle School reported 114 of 634 students absent, about 18 percent, with respiratory and stomach flus among other illnesses. Planners consider new duplex rules in Ottawa
A public hearing at Ottawa City Hall tonight will discuss easing duplex rules. The plan would let halves of most duplexes be sold as separate units to reduce costs and widen home access, though lenders remain wary. The Fairway Vista subdivision sparked the proposal as builders push for separate ownership while city rules previously required shared ownership and green space.
