Bud Schaub Named Central Heights Sports Complex

Bud Schaub served 43 years as Central Heights school board treasurer and died December 18 of prostate cancer. The board renamed the district sports complex the Bud Schaub Sports Complex in tribute to his extraordinary time and commitment.

ECKAN to distribute commodity food in Franklin County

East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corp will distribute commodity food items to eligible Franklin County program participants next week one week early. Distribution times and sites include Ottawa VFW Post 3599 U.S. 59 Ottawa 9 11:30 a.m. and Walnut Plaza Apartments Wellsville 10 a.m. to noon. Kansas groups observe Stalking Awareness Month in January

A coalition in Kansas joins 30 advocacy groups to mark National Stalking Awareness Month. Kansas records show 820 stalking incidents in 2009 and over 4,700 protection orders filed statewide. Executive director Joyce Grover notes many victims do not seek help. A toll free crisis line at 888 363 2287 is promoted for survivors of stalking and abuse.

Ottawa to discuss stormwater utility fee in 2011

Ottawa officials plan a stormwater utility fee added to residents water bills to cover costs from impervious surfaces. A task force with 17 representatives will meet January 12 and 20 to outline the flat rate, ERU bases, and impacts on residents and businesses.
