Old Depot Museum brings 1950s Ottawa to life on scale
Dave Hartmann recalls a family visit to the Old Depot Museum in Ottawa. The model railroad layout in HO scale recreates Main Street and the 1950s, with freight and passenger trains depicted along Maple and First Streets. The depot, designed by George P. Washburn and built in 1881, is represented, plus dioramas of the doll house, one room schoolhouse, Farm Kitchen and Victorian Parlor. Athena enjoyed the Christmas trees, Nativity, and a trip through twelve rooms of exhibits. Visitors can view the layout, chat with staff, and shop in the museum store north of the river near Main Street.
