George town’s cherry lore drives small town celebration
The Georgettes club led a July 4 celebration in George marking the town’s founding plot by Charlie Brown. Former Gov. Rosellini planted the first cherry tree, a tradition for new landowners, as roads and local lore bloom around cherries. The town with 344 residents hosts a carnival and bingo at Martha’s Inn Cafe with an 8-foot cherry pie and a 6 by 3 foot birthday cake.
