Koch fined for anhydrous spill near Algona Iowa
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said more than 58 000 gallons of anhydrous ammonia spilled from a Koch Industries pipeline into Lotts Creek and the Des Moines River on December 14 killing nearly 1.3 million fish along a 48 mile stretch. The state will assess a 147713 dollar fine. The spill exceeded the previous record of 6788 fish killed in a 1996 hog manure incident.
