Kansas a reluctant history of the death penalty
Kansas has shown a wary stance on capital punishment since statehood. A 1994 law lists seven capital crimes and the high court recently reversed a death sentence for Gary Wayne Kleypas in the 1996 Pittsburg murder, sending the case back for trial. Public figures on both sides note the penalty’s limited use and debated value.
