San Francisco AP report describes 48 college football players visiting Shrine Hospital for Crippled Children. Stars meet patients at Kezar Stadium, each child paired with a player, sharing hopes and receiving autographs as fundraisers for the East-West game proceeds.
The 18th Shrine all-star game in the Orange Bowl Monday night will feature a pass heavy South squad guided by Darrell Royal and Bear Bryant. Monte Lee of Texas and Bill Shaw of Georgia Tech were named co-captains as the South’s drills show three passes for every run. North coach Dale Hall and Bump Elliott continue tough pregame work.
Free substitutions will be used in the Blue Gray all star football game in Montgomery Alabama on December 31. Six coaches met to plan the game and indicated free substitutions will be the only deviation from regular college play. Daily practices start today for both squads and the game will be televised nationally. North coaches include Don Faurot Jack Mollenkopf and Ben Schwartzwalder. South coaches include Wally Butts Bill Hilderbrand and Paul Dietzel.
