Kansas State defeated Oklahoma State 65 to 59 as Hank Thaise led OSU with tough inside work. Pat McKenzie starred for K State with 11 points and 17 rebounds as Kansas State improved to 7-2, while Oklahoma State dropped to 5-3. Oklahoma defeated Colorado 64-60 behind 22 points by Jack Bee. The first round closed with Kansas-Nebraska and Iowa State-Missouri matchups. 7,500 fans attended the opener.

MacArthur Accepts Norfolk Memorial Site Plan

General of the Army Douglas MacArthur has accepted Norfolk's invitation to establish a memorial for his papers and war mementos. The city aims to dedicate the memorial within nine to twelve months and spends about half a million dollars to renovate its 11 year old courthouse. MacArthur and his wife would be buried there, the memorial to feature a rotunda with a statue of MacArthur and 126 battle flags, reflecting his ties to Norfolk through his mother’s birthplace and upbringing.
