Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion In Kansas City Case
Roy C. Terrill, 65, a Lawrence businessman, pleaded guilty to one federal tax count for underreporting 1948 taxes. He admitted owing 3,849.76 when 8,252.44 was due. Two counts were dismissed. Sentence deferred to January 9 after pre sentence review. Terrill operated stores in Lawrence, Olathe, Paola, Osawatomie, and Salina, later adding Chanute and Ottawa.

Death Ends Outstanding Career Of Glenn Martin
Glenn L. Martin, 69, aviation pioneer and founder of the Glenn L. Martin Co., died in Baltimore after a cerebral hemorrhage at Glenarm Farm. He piloted the first airplane to leave ground under its own power in 1909 and led a company that built early bombers and missiles and helped launch the first man made earth satellite. He resigned as president in 1949 and left the board chair in 1952 but remained a director.

Wreck on New Jersey Turnpike Injures Thirteen
