In Rantoul on Saturday Josh Owens of Cutler Township Fire Department alerted crews after seeing smoke from a mobile home on Elm Street. Ten residents evacuated safely as firefighters from Cutler Township Wellsville and Pottawatomie battled the blaze for over two hours, caused by an electrical fault in the laundry area, with significant damage to water and electrical lines but no injuries.
Charles H. Hale, 48, of Wellsville, died Sunday on I-35 near Vermont Road after losing control of his 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle. Investigators note near zero visibility from thick fog at about 7:29 am. no roadway obstructions found. Hale was not wearing a helmet and was found lying beside his bike.
A Franklin County deputy reports Charles H. Hale, 48, of Wellsville died when his 2001 Harley Davidson left Vermont Road at the Vermont and Thomas roads intersection north of Wellsville. Investigators noted Hale had been at the scene for some time before the call. His family was notified, and authorities are reviewing the incident.
