Longtime Kansas legislator resigns for KCC general counsel post
David Heinemann, the Kansas House's longest serving member at 27 years, will resign Sept. 1 to become general counsel for the Kansas Corporation Commission. The Garden City Republican, formerly speaker pro tem and chair of four standing committees, cited the job's full-time demands and rising partisanship as reasons for leaving. Heinemann, 49, has been a private attorney in Garden City since 1973 and played key roles in workers compensation reform and energy oversight. The new post pays $67,024 annually.
