Anonymous Kansans Help Ailing Child Heart Lung Transplant Aid
In Wichita a 2 year old Lakin girl Kalana Calkins is on a Los Angeles heart lung transplant list thanks to a Wichita couple who will pay the remaining 7600 dollars of the 10000 down payment. The donor couple, both volunteers in a Wichita hospital community, plan to raise funds to cover other costs. Kalana has four heart defects and damaged pulmonary arteries and has undergone three open heart surgeries. Her condition requires constant oxygen and without a transplant she risks death. Insurance will cover most of the 325000 procedure, leaving about 25000 out of pocket. Kalana and her mother plan to travel to Los Angeles by September with a minimum stay of two months while awaiting a donor match.
