Haas wins Goldwater award at KU for math research
Haas son of Merle and Mrs Haas of 4621 Neosho Road, a Wellsville High graduate, works with Bozenna Pasik-Duncan at KU on random processes and queuing theory. He built software to simulate real world networks for wireless, high speed networks and will present results at a SIAM conference in St. Louis. He faced class disadvantages but earned top grades. He has NSF support, teaches algebra, and is a Summerfield and University Scholar. Eleven KU students have become Goldwater Scholars since 1989.

Three Ottawa teens arrested in auto thefts and vandalism
Capt. Charles Bowling said three Ottawa youths aged 15 and 14 were arrested on suspicion of three auto thefts and two vandalism counts after cars were taken late Wednesday or early Thursday. Two cars allegedly collided. the youths were released to parents or Social and Rehabilitation Services.
