Nightcrawlers Club spon­sor roast and potluck at OU Lodge

Local camping groups the Nightcrawlers and Chippewa met at Pomona Lake for a wiener roast potluck and club meetings. Bev Deatdorff Kansas Mother of the Year and Fred Adamson received honors. Next gatherings include May events at Melvern Lake Adopt-a-Highway May 13 and Pomona Lake April 21 to 23.

Center funds operations through sale of recyclables with a building cost near 100000 dollars and 16000 dollars for equipment. Wal Mart donated half the equipment money. Center hours are 7 am to 1 pm daily and the third Saturday each month. County efforts include schools and banks contributing paper while plans aim to add smaller county collection sites. About 1100 dollars received this year with 5400 dollars more expected. center holds about 6000 dollars worth of recyclables. Materials include Glass, cans, plastics, paper and batteries.

City planners approve plats and zoning changes in Ottawa

The Planning Commission recommended eliminating multi family units from R2 zoning and creating an R3 designation for multi family housing with a special use permit for up to four units. They also moved 410 W. 19th from RS to R1 to allow smaller lots for single family homes and office space. A zoning change to parking for new furniture store on 23rd Street is slated for May public hearing.
