P A Lund and Andrew Anderson journeyed to Grand Island and Omaha, with several others visiting Omaha Lincoln or Shelby. A mix of visits includes Miss Marie Shaw from Stromsburg, Emil Schott’s Denver trip, and H L Grouse taking a post with Surprise Telephone Co. in Surprise.

A gathering of farmers and hog raisers is set for Osceola Commercial Club Rooms on Saturday Oct 2 at 7 30 p m. Dr Watson Lewis of Indianapolis will give an illustrated lecture with about fifty stereopticon views on hog cholera farm sanitation carcass disposal feeding and care before and after vaccination and stock care. The event is free to all interested.
The Women’s Relief Corps held an inspection and banquet at the Grand Army post on a Monday afternoon with Mrs. Cook of Lincolny as officer. After the inspection the corps served a famous banquet, then rounds of ammo metaphors were fired into the old veterans with baked shrapnel. The sun set with the last veteran “put to sleep” and many spoke of the capture.
George Chapman narrowly escaped death when a press drill ran over him while he adjusted equipment on his wheat field north east of town. The six horses started suddenly, the double tree broke, and Chapman was pinned under the wheels before bystander help freed him. He sustained only minor injuries and is reported as recovering well.
A party led by John Wieséman and family along with Geo W Engele and others traveled from Polk to Frisco San Mateo Los Angeles Portland Pocatello Salt Lake City and back visiting W D Crim Arnold Horst and families. They toured the Mormon Tabernacle and swam in the Great Salt Lake before returning home, noting the 5600 mile journey with many stops and vivid scenes along the way.
