Polk County Fair Opens With Damp Roads But Promises Record Attendance

Heavy rains left roads rough across Polk County delaying the fair’s start though crowds rose later and exhibitors earned praise for quality. Livestock, grain, fruit and vegetable displays drew strong comments, with awards to Alma Johnson and Wesley Chapel Ladies Aid, and county women’s clubs showing garments. Auto dealers and farm machinery makers showcased creditable exhibits, while live stock judging, boys department ribbons, chariot and mule races drew crowds. Shelby beat Osceola Woodmen 12 to 5 in a ball game as Osceola and Albion prep for a high school opener tomorrow.
