Polk County Recertified for Three-Year Brucellosis Program

Polk County earns recertification as a modified Certified Bovine Brucellosis Area under the Market Cattle Testing method. The county reported 1,269 negative samples from 6,750 beef breeding cows, with 59 reactors for a .7 percent infection rate, and dairy herds to be screened at least twice over three years to maintain status.

Brother undergoes spinal surgery in Los Angeles

Three local auto crashes cause damage and minor injuries

A trio of accidents over a week left only one driver with minor injuries. Oswald Cerny’s pickup and Earl Wieseman’s tank truck collided northeast of town on Sept 16, with Cerny treated for cuts. Sept 18 a California couple’s out of control car on Hiway 81 totaled the vehicle. they were uninjured. A State Patrol car driven by Trooper John Iske struck a runaway pony on Hiway 30A, destroying the patrol car and killing the pony.
