Memorial Service Held for Bennie Carlson
A memorial service was held Sunday at the Lutheran church for Bennie Carlson the son of Mr and Mrs J G Carlson reported killed in action on the Lexington. The Osceola and local American Legion posts attended and Rev Everett Bexell gave the memorial address. Certificates of Honor from the State Defense Committee were presented to the Carlsons with signatures by Governor Griswold. Other relatives traveled from Oakland Nebraska and Omaha to honor Sea man Carlson. A dedication ceremony followed for three flags the American Christian and Service Flags presented to the church by the Ladies Aid.

Leonard J. Nyberg, 24, son of Mrs. Olof Nyberg of Polk, enlisted in the U S Army on February 11 1941 in Rockford Illinois. He graduated from the Air Mechanics School at Chanute Field in September 1941 and was transferred to Keesler Field Mississippi where he serves as Assistant to the Chief Clerk of the Engine Division of the Air Forces Technical School. He is a graduate of High Prairie High School.
