Tragic Farm Accident Claims Robert Lees at Shelby Nebraska
Robert Walter Lees aged 24 known as Chick, son of County Commissioner John Lees, died when he fell asleep while driving a disc and was struck. He was found by a neighbor with horses attached to the disc, died about an hour earlier. He played in a Osceola tournament and was well liked. He leaves several siblings and a previous sister Amy who died in 1917. Funeral set for September 22 at the Lees home with Rev. Pengelly presiding. Interment at Shelby Raceland Cemetery.

A Sunday Osceola picnic celebrated M. L. Eyler of Shelby on his 90th birthday with more than three hundred relatives attending. Attendees hailed from Polk Potter York Nance Merrick Douglas Howard and Custer counties, including 68 grandchildren and 80 great grandchildren. Eyler, born in Adams County Pennsylvania, settled in Folk County in 1871 and raised four children near Shelby.

Shelby won a three day baseball tournament held here last week with games pushed by rain. Osceola was eliminated Sunday by Silver Creek, and in June Shelby defeated Osceola in the finals on Monday. Consolation winner Gresham over Polk. Sunday attendance was the largest Osceola crowd in years.

Council Approves Funds for New Sewage Disposal Plant
The city council passed a Resolution of Necessity Tuesday evening approving over 17000 for a new sewage disposal plant. A state committee meeting today in Fremont seeks federal funds. if approved, work starts soon. About one third of the cost is a direct federal grant with the rest from the city. Twenty five workers will be employed for four months.

Former Resident Dies At Columbus
Albert Shunk aged 52 of Rising City Nebraska died last Tuesday at St Marys Hospital in Columbus after surgery for ruptured appendix. He was born in Piper City Illinois and lived there until age 2 then moved to Nebraska near Osceola. He married Hattie Gans of Osceola on February 5 and they later lived in Piper City before returning to Nebraska on a farm near Rising City. He is survived by his widow and three children Luella Lester and Lawrence. Funeral services were held in Columbus Federated Church with burial in Columbus cemetery.
