New Officers Elected by St Francis Hospital Auxiliary
The St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary held its first meeting of the season at the schoolhouse. New officers elected were Mrs. Alfred Grossmacklaus as president, Mrs. W W Norton as vice president, and Mrs. Kenneth Cornish as secretary treasurer. The sixth Councilor District doctors will meet October 8, and the Auxiliary will serve the dinner. The group meets monthly on the third Monday.

Randell Hartle Wedding Ties Osceola and Stromsburg Roots
Miss Lois Randell of Osceola and Gus Hartle of Stromsburg were married on September 13 in Belleville Kansas. The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Randell, studied at Osceola High and now lives with her parents. The groom farms west of Stromsburg after graduating Osceola High in 1935. The couple returned to the groom's farm after a brief wedding trip.

The Red Cross completes plans for a peace time Christmas as servicemen may be home this year. Volunteers are urged to assemble Christmas boxes worth $1 and deliver by October 15 to Mrs. DeLoss Buchholz or Anderson Mercantile for distribution to Polk County in need.

Robert Mills of the 91st Division returns home on a 30 day furlough to his parents after 18 months in Italy where the unit fought from the Arno to the Southern Alps. Clarence Imhof, Coast Guard machinist’s mate, discharged under the Navy point system from St. Louis will spend about ten days with relatives in Portland before returning to Maine. Pvt George Hotchkiss Jr a former prisoner of war is awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge at Hot Springs Arkansas and seeks reassignment after duty with the 9th Armored Division. Lt G E Johnson leaves San Antonio after 90 days of POW leave with family. Robert Wiesemann arrives home for a 30 day furlough from Hawaii. Bruce Pickett reports his son Donald Pickett with the 11th Airborne Division landed near Tokyo on August 30. Rudolph Carlson Jr stationed with Marines in the Marshall Islands shares news with his parents. Al Willis stationed in Greenland spends furlough with wife and son before visiting California. Major Webster Mills Jr and family travel from Camp Hood Texas to Chicago for a new assignment. Leone Timm and Irvin Deeds spend time at Pearl Harbor where Peggy McFadden appears in a film with the Wave Rippling Trio. Duane Schmoker of Ft Warren Wyoming takes a 10 day furlough at home before Camp Beale assignment. Robert Fischer now at Station Hospital in Topeka Army Air Field. Capt Hazel Nelson transferred from Barnes Hospital Vancouver Washington to an army hospital at Topeka Kansas for further observation after a jeep accident in England last year.

Osceola Bulldogs start 1945 season with a 13 to 0 victory over Stromsburg before 400 fans. Luft and Mills scored, Berck added the extra point, and Osceola controlled play after halftime with key runs by Luft Byers Cole Berck. Next Friday they visit David City.
