A hospital notice lists patients admitted and discharged at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital. Names include Alfred Kuhnel Osceola Julius Sutter Shelby Everett Powell Stromsburg Robert Runquist Osceola and several listed in Shelby Osceola Stromsburg Silver Creek Surprise and Polk areas.
Election of officers held at Mrs Glenn Augustine home on September 11. Mrs Roy Grassnicklaus elected president with Mrs Bull Jaax as vice president, Mrs Henry Smith secretary treasurer and Mrs Arthur Johansen news reporter. Guests included Mrs James Brigham and others. Bunco ended with prizes for several members. luncheon featured a red schoolhouse centerpiece.

Payroll checks and padding risks are weighed, while Frank Foote defends his reduced and revised expense vouchers. The Morris case, fired from the Lincoln Reform School in 1955, surfaces in Lancaster court with ongoing dispute over referee validity and board process.
Polk County Wildlife Club and Nebraska Game Commission plan to treat the sand pits at Clarks with a chemical to kill rough fish like carp and gar. The aim is to boost bass crappie catfish and other game fish populations. The operation starts about 10 a.m. Sunday with volunteers urged to bring boats nets and ice for rapid handling of fish. The club will restock the pits later and seeks new members paying $1 dues to Ivar Oberg or Bob Mills.
More than 300 parents and patrons attended the Get Together sponsored by the Board of Education at the Osceola high school auditorium Tuesday evening. The program featured piano solos by Linda Merrick Cheryl McKeag and Betsy Nash a vocal by Nancy Nash and a tap dance by Kathy Schneider. Coffee and doughnuts followed as attendees toured the school and spoke with teachers.
The 30th Ak-Sar-Ben Live Stock Show records 1 003 4-H participants from four states with 1 927 total entries across market steers and heifers, dairy cattle, swine and sheep. Gary and Darwin Anderson and Curtis Ingalls lead Beef Division entries while Lora Lee Dawes, Lionel Swanson, Bob Swanson, and Diane Scherer contribute multiple animals. The event runs with the Rodeo September 20–29 in Omaha and marks first full 4-H dormitory housing on Ak-Sar-Ben grounds.
Jake LaMunyon 62, rural mail carrier for Shelby, died after his car collided with a northbound vehicle driven by Don Rafert 22 of Gresham two miles south of Shelby at State Highway 76 and a county road. Rafert had minor injuries. LaMunyon, a WWI and WWII veteran, long time Shelby postmaster and 15 years as rural carrier, is survived by his widow and two children. Funeral at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Shelby. Interment in Shelby cemetery.
Osceola suffers a 13 to 7 loss at home as David City builds a 6–0 halftime lead with a TD and a later rushing score. Osceola goalkeeper Ronnie Carlson breaks free for the Bulldogs’ lone TD in the third period, while penalties hindered the comeback.
The American Legion Auxiliary hosts the 1957 Girl State Tea on September 25 at 8 15 pm with Bonnie Rodene presenting the Girl State report Two Auxiliary members will receive seventy five hour service awards for 1956 1957 Osceola High School prepares for Homecoming October 4 with a 2 30 parade theme Movieland and a parade float drive six Senior Class candidates vie for Homecoming Queen crowned at halftime of the St Edward game Shelby Band invited to perform and rural schools may enter the competition

Birth announcements list Darrell Gene Cejka born August 31 in Stromsburg weighing 8 lb 4 oz. to Mr. and Mrs Charles Cejka. A 6 lb 8 oz Norton baby born September 12 in Washington DC to Mr. and Mrs James Norton, with Elaine Grossnicklaus as formerly Mrs. Grossnicklaus. Roy and Mrs Grossnicklaus travel to DC to meet the new grandson. Bob Pray and Mrs Pray announce a daughter born September 17 in Omaha weighing 8 lb 1 oz, formerly Lillian Berck. Rev John H Carlson and Mrs Carlson welcome Sharon Marie born September 11 in Stromsburg weighing 8 lb 14 oz.
Mr and Mrs Fred Franco of Omaha visited Mr and Mrs Ed Schott over the weekend, staying at their home and sharing time together.
On Saturday September 21 Osceola hosts public auctions in morning and afternoon. Grubaugh Brothers Auctioneers start at 10 am offering Amelia Sayles residence on Gospel Ridge with six room house, garage, and about a half acre, inspect via David City or Lesta Mace. Afternoon sale at 1 30 pm features Harriet Fischer household goods at premises four blocks south and one west of square, cash terms, Merrick Engelcery to conduct.
Mr and Mrs Mauritz Swanson and family Mr and Mrs Evald Pliefke and family and John Ekstrom were dinner guests Sunday of Mr and Mrs Arthur Ekstrom.
