Mr and Mrs Glenn I Anderson observed their 60th anniversary with a family dinner Aug 31. Attending were relatives from Aledo Ames Osceola Denver Blair Crete and Sacramento among others. The District 19 Board of Education met in Osceola to plan the new junior-senior high school dedication set for Oct 12 and to appoint committees for 1975 76.

Volleyball Season Opened At Home With Victories
Osceola high school opened volleyball at home with a win over Clarks. The junior varsity won the first two sets, edging out in a tight second. Ann Thornton led scorers with nine points, Melanie Oquist had eight, as the determined varsity followed suit and kept pressure on their opponents.

Ecuadoran student joins Osceola high school program
Patricia Canizores a 16 year old from Quito Ecuador arrived in Osceola to live with the Orval Eikenhorst family joining fellow exchange student Nelson Tavares at the local high school. She studied at Loja private school and is enrolled in American Problems Spanish Art and Office Practice. Her English is improving though baggage from the flight was delayed. the Eikenhorsts’ daughter shared wardrobe.

1976 Set Aside Acreage Rules Lifted for Major Crops
Paul Walgren of the Polk County ASC says there will be no acreage set aside requirement for the 1976 feed grain wheat and upland cotton programs. The Agriculture Department confirms no conserving base rule for the duration of the 1973 act and permits substitution of non conserving or conserving crops to protect allotments. Additional details will follow after further 1975 data review.

County sheriff reports three accidents with extensive property damage but no injuries. O'Brien and Sherbeck caused a side swipe on Highway 92 near Shelby. Roper failed to stop at a county road intersection near Osceola, colliding with Donelson. Gabel lost control on loose gravel near Shelby, rolling the car into a ditch.

Nebraska opens 20th hunting season September 20
Nebraska outdoorsmen prepare for the 20th hunting season starting September 20 with upland bird, deer archery, and new raccoon and opossum running seasons. Grouse hunting runs from 15 minutes before sunrise to sunset with a three bird daily bag limit. Deer archery occurs from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. The raccoon and opossum running season allows training from September 20, but no takings until November 1. A hunting permit is required for raccoons and opossums and a pelts trapping permit is needed for sellers.
