Maine Republicans strengthened their hold by returning a GOP governor auditor and four congressmen while two U S senators won. The Democrat controlled House can on joint ballot elect remaining state officers. Carl E Milliken led his ticket defeating incumbent Oakley C Curtis by about 13000 votes. County officers mostly Republican, including county attorneys and sheriffs who enforce prohibition laws.

Forty third York Baptist session adopts Five Year Program

The 43rd annual York Association session gathered at the local Baptist church from Friday to Sunday September 9 and 10. Nearly 150 delegates and visitors attended. The highlight was adoption of The Five Year Program from the Northern Baptist Convention urging expanded evangelistic educational and missionary work. A Sunday resolution urged action by voters of this commonwealth.

Stromsburg Petition Seeks Special Election on Court House Removal

At a county commissioners meeting Judge Good of Lincoln represented Stromsburg in presenting a petition calling a special election to decide the removal of the county court house. The petition bore 1644 legal voters. Osceola's attorney sought 40 days to investigate, a request opposed by Stromsburg counsel, and the commissioners granted the delay with Branting and Henning voting yea and Pike voting no.

Wieseman Farm Reception Honors Christ Wieseman and Lydia Gath

About sixty young guests attended a Friday reception at the Wieseman farm home for Christ Wieseman and his bride Lydia Gath of Fremont, with distant relatives from Gresham Havelock University Place and Columbus.
