Nebraska tax study panel backs 15 percent income tax rate

A tax study committee recommends the Nebraska Equalization Board set the first personal income tax rate at 15 percent with a 20 percent corporate levy. Sen. Terry Carpenter argues 15 percent is safe amid expected revenue shortfalls and could be cut later if excess funds exist. The board must act by November 15 for 1968. The recommendation follows a Lancaster court ruling that upheld the 1967 tax act and precedes a state supreme court review.
