Dwight Havens of the Nebraska State Safety Council and Captain C J Sanders of the State Safety Patrol issue a warning to motorists to stop for school buses loading or unloading on highways. They urge alertness for children crossing the road and recall nine fatalities from last September as a warning.

Maple Leaf Club gathers September 11 at Mrs. Schmoker’s home with officer elections. Osceola Garden Club next meets September 16 at the Andersons with Miss Wisely. Stoner Club hosts September 17 with Mrs. McKeeag Jr.
The Wesley Chapel WSCS met last Thursday with Mrs. Floyd West and thirteen members and visitors present. A lesson was given by Mrs. Harry Hewitt. The October meeting will be with Mrs. David Thompson. Various local families and visitors from Clinton Iowa Kearney Gresham Hastings Lincoln and Columbus gathered for picnics meals and social visits around the weekend and past week.

They plan a trip to Illinois and reside in Lincoln.
James C. Olson recounts the first American-Indian council in present Nebraska at Council Bluff near Fort Calhoun. Lewis and Clark met Otoe and Missouri chiefs to discuss Jefferson's policies, delivering speeches and gifts before continuing up the Missouri River.
Lucyle Lassek of Omaha and Mr and Mrs Frank Zelasny and family from near Monroe were Sunday visitors in the Leo Lassek home.
Osceola resident Mrs. Sylvia A. Prowett sustained severe facial bruises after her motorcycle collided with a Yellow Cab driven by Paul Swanson at Tenth and Burlington last Friday afternoon. She was treated at York General Hospital.
The Osceola club schedules two baseball games at the fair grounds park. Tonight they face Duncan at eight o clock, and next Sunday they meet St Paul for a return engagement at eight.
Rev. Alfield E. Franzen leads the Swede Home Church on the fifteenth Sunday after Trinity with Sunday School at 10 a. m. and Morning Worship at 11 a. m. A postcard will be mailed if services cannot be held in the church auditorium.

Arthur Emanuel Monson, born September 10 1895 on the Osceola area family homestead, died suddenly on August 29 at age 51 11 11. He left four brothers and two sisters, plus extended relatives. Funeral services were September 2 at the M B Church Osceola with burial in Swede Home cemetery. pallbearers named.

Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Stromsburg Sunday afternoon for Mrs C. P. Nelson age 85 who died Thursday after a lengthy illness. Mrs Nelson had lived in Stromsburg for many years with the family operating the Nelson Clothing Store in the city.
Monte Jaccoby Herrmann grandson of Mr and Mrs A J Herrmann of Alton receives the God and Country Church Scout award and the Eagle Scout badge. The award, authorized by the Protestant Committee on Scouting of the Boy Scouts of America, honors his church service and 150 additional hours of personal church work. The minister will present the God and Country award and the Piasa Bird Council executive secretary will decorate him with the Eagle Scout badge.

S. W. Calhoun, recently moved from Wahoo, assumed the duties as local Union Pacific agent this week. Calhoun previously served as agent here for many years before transferring to Wahoo. Miss Rose Gaspers, relief operator, who filled in after the late Mr. Coons fell ill, has been transferred to Elkhorn Nebraska.
Local notes report the Jolly Workers gathering at Mrs. Alvin Burke's home on September 17. Other social updates include Mrs. Freda Knorr and Mrs. W. L. Hollister hosting an aid event this Thursday and several family visits across the region.
The Bureau of Animal Husbandry seeks to double Mexican border cattle patrols to stem foot and mouth disease risk and to hire 300 more if Mexico’s outbreak worsens. Estimated costs include 100 million for eradicating the disease and 200 million more if spread reaches northern Mexican herds.

Miss Ava Lauretta Bromwich and Robert Charles Hastert married September 1 at Sacred Heart Church. The couple, University of Nebraska graduates, will reside at 3319 Dodge Street Omaha after a luncheon at Hotel Evans Columbus. Attendants included Miss Patricia Schaffer and Miss Phyllis Hastert with Norma Clements singing. Out of town guests came from Omaha Gibbon David City North Bend Columbus Eagle Fullerton Decatur.
Mr and Mrs Leonard Serio of Milwaukee spent several days at Joe Karges home. Mrs Anna Karges of Shelby and Martin Karges of Silver Creek attended Tuesday supper at the Karges home. Betty Gonnerman Riverside school teacher attended the State Fair Tuesday. C L Dake and Rex and F E Oquist family attended the State Fair on Tuesday and Friday respectively. Gerald Tomasivisez, employed at Columbus, spent the weekend with his parents. G P Mace and Lesta of Osceola called Saturday at John Voichaske home.
St Vincent Church lists daily and Sunday Mass times and notes St Vincent Altar Society meets Wednesday at 7 45 p m with Mrs Leo Atbers presiding. Hosts include Mrs Hubert Alt Gary Lux and Wallace McKeag. An evening of cards and lunch follows.
