Polk County Livestock Tour Showcases Irrigated Corn Yields

More than 150 farmers and businessmen attended a Polk County pasture for forage livestock tour last Wednesday. Neil Dawes won first prize by correctly identifying 18 of 21 weeds. The event featured irrigated corn fields, yield estimates around 60 bushels per acre, electric pumps, silos, sorghums, and a power-driven farm demonstration. 4-H honors were announced for Arlois Island and Marjorie Warnick with ribbon wins. livestock and crops judging teams from Silver Creek earned state recognition.

Out After Car Taxes In 1935 38 Distress Warrants

Platte county treasurer's office planned this week to issue distress warrants for unpaid auto taxes from 1935 to 1938. About 2,000 tax delinquent cases were found and roughly 1,000 warrants prepared. After completion, the warrants go to the county sheriff.

Osceola High School Enrollments Match Last Year

Osceola Schools opened with 310 students total. The high school held 165 pupils, identical to the start of last year. Grade distribution lists Kindergarten through Twelfth grade and six post graduates. Activities sponsors include Glee Club Miss Mansfield and Band Mr. Wilson among others.

Winners in Farm Bureau contest announced

The Farm Bureau Executive Board announced the scrap book contest results for 4-H club boys and girls. First place went to Betty Leigh McMeekin, followed by Jacqueline Lindburg Polk second, Doris Brigham Shelby third, Glenn Kresha Osceola fourth, with Patricia McMeekin Shelby and Lillian Kresha Osceola receiving honorable mention. Prizes ranged from 1.50 to 0.50 dollars.

Quiet Osceola Wedding Unites Zedicher and Herrman

Miss Ola Zedicher daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Zedicher wed Robert Herrman son of Mr and Mrs Harry Herrman in York on Sunday September 3 officiated by Rev O T Deaver. Both graduates of Osceola High School, the couple plans to reside on the Herrman farm north of Osceola after a brief state trip.

Bellwood to Face Polk County Outlaws Sunday at Osceola

Baseball fans in Osceola will see Bellwood visit the fair grounds next Sunday to challenge the Polk County Outlaws. The clubs split a recent 11 inning game 3 to 2 with Bellwood winning, and Bellwood crushed Stromsburg 13 to 2 last week. Admission is 25 cents with ladies and children free.

As school resumes, motorists must heighten vigilance near streets crowded with returning and new students. The piece urges drivers to match renewed school habits to protect children and notes prior year accidents among youngsters were preventable.

New Auto Title Law Takes Effect Tomorrow in Polk County

County officials move to implement a new motor vehicle title certificate system effective Sept. 8. Buyers and lenders must obtain a certificate of title through the county clerk before licensing. dealers issue certificates or deliver to lienholders as loans are recorded. The law creates a motor vehicle lien file and assigns fee schedules for titles, duplicates, memoranda, and lien notations. County Clerk John S. Anderson will manage the process with existing staff and occasional part time help.

Mission Meet To Be Hosted By Stromsburg District

Beginning Sunday at 8 p m and continuing all day Monday the Stromsburg District of the Nebraska Conference will send five pastors to our church for its annual Mission Meeting. Sessions at 10 30 a m 2 30 p m and 8 p m. Sunday includes usual services with Sunday School at 10 and Holy Communion at 11. Polk native William McGaffin, son of H. M. McGaffin former Polk Progress editor, rose from The Progress to Columbus Telegram to Columbia University. He later worked for AP in London and Paris before delivering a vivid Europe report via short wave radio.

Miss Irene Grossnicklaus and Carl Burritt were united in marriage at Grand Island by Rev. O A Graebner on August 30. Attendants were Miss Georgena Grossnicklaus and Clarence Imhof. The bride, a Osceola High School graduate of 1933, taught Polk County schools. the groom also graduated in 1933. A reception followed at the Grossnicklaus home. a dance is planned at Eller's Hall on September 12 for friends.
