State Auditor Ray C. Johnson delivered the Polk County audit results in Osceola on Friday. He complimented county officers on the county’s healthy treasury balance and high tax collection percentage compared with other counties in the state.
Bellwood residents visit Leonard Hiemer and family and Mrs Irene Clem er joins from Provo for Rebekah Assembly in Fremont. Visitors include Mark Stalnaker from San Diego and Mrs Jim Reisdorf from Denver to see Regina Thelen. The Home Study Club plans a meeting at Mrs John Hiemer on Oct 30.
Local notes report numerous veterans messaging families from duty stations including San Francisco Patrick Henry Virginia and Boise Idaho. Discharges and homecomings are noted for several men with mentions of overseas service in Europe and the Pacific theater. A Polk County Victory Drive quota is set at 282000 with emphasis on community cooperation.

The bride wore white mousseline de soie with Chantilly lace and a waxed apple blossom crown. The couple were attended by Mrs James Christenson and Robert Marks. The bride is a Moorhead Minnesota graduate and the groom a Shelby High School graduate who trained at the McCook Army Air Field.
Ansel Graves, once a Stromsburg Bank employee, visited town last Saturday with his wife and daughter en route to Palisade to see his mother. He plans to return to Fort Morgan Colorado, where he remains in banking, with his family soon.

County commissioners discontinue the Poor Farm on May 15 1945 and authorize leaseholders Mr and Mrs Bruce Pickett to operate a licensed private rest home for the aged. Inspectors from State Fire Department Health Department and State Welfare tied to issue the license. The Welfare Department invites inquiries from anyone wishing to operate a similar home for the elderly while noting ongoing need for such facilities.

Wilma Van Berg and Glen Tabor dined with Frances Camp family. Chas Tragart drove to Columbus for a party at John Sokal home. Edward Lisko joined Mike Podraza family Wednesday. Butch Eschler and Maxine stopped by near Rising City. Frances Camp family went to Columbus Sunday for funeral services for J F Ferricks, brother-in-law of Mrs Camp.

Miss Bonna Vea Brion daughter of Mr and Mrs I W Brion of Denver and Alvin D Swanson of the U S Navy son of Mr and Mrs Alvin G Swanson of Denver were married October 21 at 3 30 in Au gustana Lutheran Church Denver Rev A T Lorimer officiated A reception followed at the church parlors The newlyweds plan a wedding trip to Colorado Springs and will reside in Albuquerque New Mexico The Swanson family formerly lived near Osceola and the groom is the grandson of Mrs August Swanson of Osceola.
Funeral services were held at the Polk Methodist Church for Harvey H. Hahn 47 a well known farmer west of Polk who died early Monday at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln after a three week illness. Rev A C Bates led the service with interment in Arborville cemetery. He leaves a wife seven sons and two daughters four brothers five sisters and his parents Mr and Mrs E W Hahn Polk. Obituary will appear next week.

Mrs. Ed Schernikau of Clatonia and Mrs. Alberta Heckman visited in the Frank Hewitt home Saturday evening. Mrs. Heckman has been at Clatonia visiting relatives the past two weeks.

Seybold. The bridal party included Mrs. Glen Boss and Edward Boss. The couple hosted a Columbus home dinner at Mrs. W. F. Miller’s residence and then a reception. The bride, a 1938 graduate, worked in Columbus. the groom, a three month Army enlistee serving 36 months in the European Theater, awaits discharge.
Robert Mace returned Sunday from Camp Walters Texas on a 15 day furlough. Don Hayes arrived home on Navy furlough from California. Several families hosted and visited relatives at Clarks Osceola and nearby homes including Carlson Meacham Kresha and Mace households with multiple visits and a homecoming for George Kresha from overseas.

A damage suit is being tried in district court this week with Judge Hastings presiding. Plaintiff James Fasbender of Shelby sues Milford Peterson, who has filed a cross petition. The case stems from an auto collision south of Shelby last April that destroyed about ten cases of eggs. about twenty witnesses have been called, and the case has not reached the jury.
Edward D. Bud Schnasse returns to work for his former employer The Crouse Tex Drug Company after nearly four years in the U S Navy where he served as Pharmacist Mate aboard ship and at naval hospitals. He left service as Pharmacist Mate First Class.
