Polk County Farmer Killed at Railroad Crossing
Ifrid Matson, a Polk county farmer living west of Beulah store in Platte precinct, was struck and killed by Union Pacific No. 17 near Clarks on Saturday afternoon. His car stalled at the crossing about 2:30, the train could do little, and Matson died at the scene. He leaves a widow and four children, with seven siblings and a wide circle of friends mourning.
