Mr and Mrs Peter Nelson marked their 50th wedding anniversary at their Stromsburg home with family and friends. Born in Sweden they wed in 1873 and moved from Platte to Osceola then Stromsburg, raising ten children and eighteen grandchildren. a formal program followed by a family dinner.

Polk County Fair to Host Premier Race Program Next Year
At a county agricultural association meeting, plans for a speed program at the Polk County Fair next season were unveiled with $2,500 allocated for races. Gilbert Johnson resigned as secretary, J. L. Polk County Agricultural Society Adjourned Meeting report
The Polk County Agricultural Society adjourned meeting on Oct 18 1928 approved a financial report showing receipts 4114.86 and disbursements 4358.98 with about 1500 for premiums. New officers were elected and a motion authorized a race meeting with a $2500 guaranteed by a citizen committee to be arranged with the fair board, conditional on receipts covering expenses. The 1929 fair was planned for the week after the state fair if the race meeting could fit that schedule.

The Order of the Eastern Star marked the 38th anniversary of the Osceola Chapter with a banquet at the Presbyterian church. Speakers included Judge F. H. Ball and J. Locke. O. E. Mickey discussed Masonic benevolences. Miss Esther Lees spoke for the sisters. Frank and Mrs. Anderson led the program ending with games and refreshments.

Camp Fire Corner Plans December Art Booth Fundraiser
The group held an outdoor meeting October 10 with a supper prepared by the girls. They planned an art booth for a December bazaar run by the Ladies Aid Society of the Methodist Church. On October 17 a treasure hunt followed after school, ending with a supper and return to Osceola by eight.

Close Call at Rail Crossing Near Duncan
William Fyfe and his two sons, Donald and Billy, escaped death when their Dodge was wrecked at the Fred Engel crossing on the Union Pacific west of Duncan. Mr Fyfe suffered three broken ribs while Billy, two and a half, lost three toes and was badly cut and bruised. Billy is hospitalized in Columbus but expected to recover. Donald was unhurt. The crossing has a history of accidents and drivers are urged to slow and listen for trains despite engine whistles.

County approves some damages to Dr Neville after vehicle loss
County records show Dr William Neville of Stromsburg had a claim for 1465.50 after his car fell into a water hole when a bridge in Clear Creek precinct gave way last summer. The board allowed 65.50 and disallowed the rest. the county also purchased a new car for 900.

Ten girls from grades seven and eight met at Isabel Dielman home to form a Minnetoska Camp Fire group led by Doris Burdick and Hazel Benson. Officers elected Frances Berg president Dorothy Clark secretary Isabel Dielman treasurer Mrs. Wilbur Olson guardian plans included a hike next week and a follow up outing last evening. Doris Hansen and Isabel Dehlman blazed the trail to a spot east of town where all were hungry and enjoyed supper. The next meeting is set for October 24.
