Homecoming Crowd Watches Bulldogs Triumph 54-0

Osceola celebrated Homecoming with a 54-0 victory over Silver Creek as Lyndon Wieseman opened scoring with a 16 yard run. Joe Graham added a 44 yard TD, Scott Watts kicked an extra point, and Tracy Day scored before halftime to push the lead to 27-0.

Clarence Jones Wins Record Armchair Contest Prize

Clarence Jones of Silver Creek won with 12 correct winners in the Armchair Quarterback contest. A $5 merchandise certificate for him is held at the Record office and redeemable at any football advertiser.

Osceola Board Meets. approves workshops and class size request

The Osceola Board of Education met October 10 in regular session at the junior-senior high. Minutes were approved, attendance policy discussed, and a request to reduce second grade class size considered. In-service workshop for teachers approved and principal Don Cook allowed to attend a workshop in Omaha. A $150 gift from the Challengers 4-H Club designated for weather station equipment was accepted.

William Gage Named Polk County Sheriff

William Gage 38 former Aurora police deputy takes over as Polk County Sheriff beginning Monday October 17 He is 38 and will reside at 314 State Street Osceola Iowa native Gage moved to Nebraska in 1965 and has 12 years in law enforcement including Army Security Agency service and Hamilton County Civil Defense Director duties. He plans to meet residents and speak on law enforcement topics after establishing a duty schedule.

Queen Jean King Randy Reigned At Homecoming

The 1977 Osceola High School Homecoming celebration on October 14 featured a downtown sidewalk sale parade and football game versus Silver Creek. Jean Soukup was named queen with Randy Reese as king after a float parade, with kindergarten flower bearers and student attendants. Local businesses supported prizes and activities for the event.

Mrs. Jacobsen Wins 1978 Ford Fiesta Prize

Mrs. Glen Jacobsen learned last weekend she won a 1978 Ford Fiesta in a drawing by 79 Safeway stores across Nebraska Iowa and Kansas. She awaited delivery timing from the Omaha distributor as the contest runs through mid November awarding 150000 in prizes including two cars weekly.
