Extension Day in Polk county featured the fourth regular Home Extension Council meeting led by Mrs. Ruth Lux at Swanson's Hall Stromsburg. New 1956 club presidents attended. The City Council named Harlan Rowan to supervise public works succeeding Norman Finter who resigned. Rowan will take over Monday October 24 and oversee the water department streets and other public works. The Rowans moved to Osceola from the northern part of the state about a year ago.

Nebraska requires new licenses by October 31 under state law. All applicants must undergo re examination if not compliant. Carleton Anderson, treasurer, notes about 300 licenses remain to be issued based on prior issuance figures from 1953 to 1955.

Father of Osceolan Dies at Newman Grove

J. O. Jacobson of Newman Grove died suddenly last Sunday evening October 9 at age 67. He was father of Mrs. Harold Klingman of this city. Funeral services were held October 12 with interment in Newman Grove. Survivors include his widow, a son and his daughter Mrs. Klingman.

Fire department called to hotel fire in Osceola

Osceola Volunteer Fire Department answered an early morning alarm around 6 30 to a hotel room where a mattress caught fire. Damage was limited to the mattress with smoke irritation on the floor.

A new corporation named Osceola Drilling Company is formed in Osceola Nebraska by Orville Eikenhorst and Kirk Bowman. It will provide surveys topography test well drilling and irrigation system services across the northeast Nebraska area and offers technical advice to customers seeking irrigation setup amid a dry season.

Polk county savings bond chairman E C Nordlund announced September sales of Series E and H bonds totaling 48094. County nine month total reaches 724094, about 80 percent of the 1955 quota. George P. Mace 93, Osceola Resident, Dies

George P. Mace of Osceola died at his home on October 15 1955 at age 93 years seven months and 26 days. He was born February 17 1862 in Agency Iowa and lived in Nebraska Kansas and Iowa before settling in Osceola. Survived by seven children twenty more grandchildren thirty three great grandchildren and a granddaughter Mildred Jennings. Funeral at Fairview Church October 18 officiated by Rev. H R Weber with interment in Osceola cemetery.

Dr and Mrs Doyle Sundberg announce the birth of a six pound ten ounce daughter named Mitzie Marie on Sunday October 16 at Osceola Hospital. The Sundbergs have another daughter and a son. Raymond Louis a 70 pound baby boy was born to Mr and Mrs Raymond Tlamka of Columbus on Wednesday October 12 at a Columbus hospital. Mr and Mrs Byron Case of Omaha welcome a baby girl Mary Catherine born September 17. The Cases have two other children Bobby and Gregory. Case once lived in Osceola with his parents and attended high school there.

Ruth Wolstenholm Weds Sydney Hanson in York Church
