Returning from Mead Nebraska late Saturday night Mr and Mrs O A Watkins of Shelby were injured when their car crashed seven miles east of I Winhoo. Mrs Watkins suffered a broken collar bone pelvis and facial cuts. S A Lampkins 86 and Mrs Lampkins 74 sustained multiple injuries. Watkins and 7 year old Bobby escaped unharmed. G H Geis and three passengers also uninjured. Vehicles damaged.

Polk county to hold a county husking contest on Thursday October 26 at 9 am on the Harry Jacobson farm near Osceola. The Osceola Community Club committee includes F B Kelly I D Huston Wark Steeple Joan Rogers and Fred Branting. Four merchandise prizes are on view at John Rogers store. Counties Divide Salvage From Old Platte River Bridge
After a joint Platte Polk and Butler meeting in Columbus, Polk and Butler counties take one fourth each of the salvage from the old Platte River bridge while Platte County receives one half. The bridge dates to the 1870s and counties south of it had funded upkeep and the cost of the new bridge.

Mrs G A Kjelson and daughters Astrid and Alice from Gothenburg visited Stromsburg and A V Kjelson family. Kenneth Christensen, a Stromsburg High football end, was seriously injured but survived with no broken bones or internal damage after a Friday game with Genoa. The Fall Festival or Treat Days drew crowds with Drum Corps displays from Sutton York Aurora and Stromsburg, a horse shoe tourney, girls softball, kittenball, and a merry go round with many rides. Last Saturday about 150 Maple Leaf Club members families and friends attended a Legion Hall supper. The evening featured a bountiful chicken meal with trimmings followed by vocal and instrumental numbers readings dances playlets and a talk by Mrs. Nellie G Benson on her work with the State Institutions as the Mother of Nebraska. Mr and Mrs Ben were unable to attend but the group enjoyed the program and company.
