John Paustian an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Nebraska will be the guest speaker at the Methodist Men meeting next Sunday. He is a member of First Methodist Church Lincoln and serves as Stewardship Secretary on the church board. The Men meet at 7 00 pm for a chili oyster supper then a brief business session before his talk. John Miller Dies After Hip Injury at 86
John Miller, 86, died Monday at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital after surgery. He fractured a hip when he fell Saturday at the Dan Magnuson home, where he had lived twelve years. Death was due to a blood clot. funeral arrangements are pending.

Beverly Wieseman of Osceola placed 8th with her Guernsey junior yearling Rhoda at the National Guernsey Cattle Show held during the National Dairy Cattle Congress in Waterloo Iowa on October 17. Her senior yearling helped Nebraska’s state herd to 6th in the open class and 15th in the state herd, marking her as Polk County’s first 4-H member to exhibit nationally.

Osceola High School Band won the Harvest of Harmony trophy in a straight marching competition with 55 bands, earning a second trophy for a superior rating on a special routine. Retirement Village fund goal moving toward reality
The committee reports total donations reaching 37 800 dollars of a 45 000 goal for the retirement village with expectations the last 5 000 will be met. Brother Dies During Visit in Evansville
Mr. George Daum, 65, of Evansville Indiana arrived Friday with his wife and another couple to visit brothers Otto Daum of Osceola and Louie Daum of Shelby. He suffered a heart attack and died Sunday morning at Annie Jeffrey Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are planned in Evansville on Thursday.

Sept temperature highs reached 91 and a 32 degree low with 3.12 inches September rainfall. A trace of snow fell Saturday morning and gusty winds caused area damage late Tuesday afternoon. A primary wire near Jack Harrison’s home was damaged cutting electric power to Osceola. Dave Rutter farm hog shed, 744 miles north west of Osceola, destroyed by wind. debris damaged a new steel grain storage building and roof. Trees were damaged at Fred Wiesen’s home and a windmill at Bill Umstead’s home.
