Lawmakers Move Toward Federal Nepotism Ban
Congress appears close to passing an anti nepotism act banning federal officials from hiring close relatives. Rep Neal Smith leads the effort targeting Post Office jobs with a floor amendment that passed 49 to 33 on a late night vote. Senate endorsement is expected after Civil Service chief John Macy voiced support but warned the plan is broad. The measure would not retroactively affect current appointees and would apply across the federal service including Capitol Hill.
